MacBook (12-inch and classic) parts compatibility by model and EMC

The MacBook name covers the white and aluminium unibody laptops as well as the ultra-thin 12-inch Retina MacBook, and these are among the most frequently confused Apple portables because the name alone does not identify the machine. The A-number on the underside and the model identifier in System Information are essential here. The table below lists each MacBook generation we carry parts for alongside its A-number, EMC number, model identifier and year so you can confirm exactly which battery, display or keyboard your machine takes.

Warning: These parts are model-specific. Confirm your exact A-number or EMC number against the correct row below before ordering. The wrong logic board, display, or battery will not fit.

Which MacBook do I actually have?

Check the model number beginning with A on the underside, or open System Information from the Apple menu while holding Option and read the model identifier. The 12-inch Retina MacBook is the thinnest with a single USB-C port, the unibody models are aluminium with a MagSafe port, and the earlier models are white polycarbonate. The table pairs each with its exact A-number.

Are 12-inch Retina MacBook batteries model specific?

Yes. The 12-inch MacBook used a terraced battery bonded into the top case, and Apple revised it across the 2015, 2016 and 2017 releases. A battery from one year does not reliably fit another, so match your model identifier to the correct row rather than buying on screen size alone.

Can I still get parts for the older white and unibody MacBooks?

Many wear items such as batteries, hard drives, optical drives and keyboards are still available for the classic MacBook models. Because those machines used removable and serviceable components, matching the A-number in the table is usually enough to find a compatible part.
